How to Hold the Bow

Holding the bow correctly helps your child play with ease and a beautiful sound.

We start with what I like to call the “bunny” shape—making a curved hand with relaxed fingers. The thumb tucks gently under the stick, with the fingers draped softly over top—and the pinky, balances everything.

Imagine holding a small water balloon. If you grip too tightly, it’ll pop. But if you hold it gently, with control— it stays together.

A soft, relaxed bow hold is foundational for smooth, confident playing—and it’s one of the first things we focus on in lessons.
