What’s the Difference Between Violin & Viola

Violin and viola look really similar—but they’re not the same.

The violin is the smaller one and plays higher notes—it’s bright and clear, and often plays the melody.

The viola is slightly larger and plays deeper, warmer tones. It has its own beautiful voice—kind of like the middle harmony in a choir.

Violin is popular for beginners, but viola is a beautiful choice too. Both are amazing instruments. What matters most is what your child connects with.

In lessons, I help each student find their own musical voice—whether that’s with violin or viola.
